Ballymun Civic Center

This building suffered from what is known as “Nickel Sulphide Inclusions“. This is where minute particles of Nickel Sulphide are caught in the Toughned-Glass manufacturing process. When the glass temperature expands and contracts, so does the inclusions, and in some cases the glass can explode, without any warning. For obvious reasons, if glass expodes without warning, it will drop from a height and cause injury to unsuspecting people below. For this contract, we installed a clear safety film to all the glass Balustades on the outer side of the glass. It required, as you see on the pictures, a suitable scaffolding system. We also sealed up all the edges, to ensure that, should the glass explode again, that the film would contain the glass sufficiently, to give time to clear the areas.
